Mac 911 Tip of the Week A reader who wishes to remain anonymous would like to print some of our work. The anonymous reader writes: "I value Macworld's instructional and troubleshooting articles highly, and often copy and paste them to a Word document to save in my "Troubleshooting" folder. However, this method also carries over unwanted icons and non-relevant article links. Is there an easy way to get a clean version suitable for placing in a Word or TextEdit document?" I appreciate that you appreciate our work enough to want to file it away. But for those uninterested in flashy features, there are plenty of minor changes, as well. Here's a quick look at ten that caught my eye. More Mac News, Reviews, and How-Tos Opinion OS X should embrace multiple displays Users with multiple monitors seem to have become second-class citizens on the Mac, but it's not too late for Apple to turn that around in the next OS X update. Macworld's guide to 2011 tax software Though you have plenty of time right now, sooner or later, you'll need to do your taxes before the April 17 deadline. Fortunately, tax software options on the Mac, iOS, and online make the process a lot easier. Intego finds new strain of Mac Flashback Trojan horse Intego is reporting a new strain of a Mac-focused Trojan horse that it says is infecting "many Mac users." How to create an animated GIF from a video clip Take a video snippet and turn it into an animated GIF Versions and Auto Save explained Can you transfer a Lion file that has multiple saved versions to another Mac and expect to browse those versions? Fix HandBrake DVD ripping if you've installed VLC 2.0 If you upgraded to the latest version of VLC Player, you may no longer be able to rip encrypted DVDs with HandBrake. Luckily, there's an easy fix. Ask the iTunes Guy: Work with iTunes libraries The iTunes Guy answers questions about moving your iTunes library, opening multiple iTunes windows simultaneously, finding tracks in playlists, and more. Cook, Apple's success take center stage at annual shareholder meeting At Apple's annual shareholder meeting, the focus was again on CEO Tim Cook, who addressed the company's fortunes (and fortune), with some corporate-governance changes thrown in for good measure. Universal Access tips for everyone Although Universal Access is designed with those with disabilities in mind, there are features within that can help everyone. Chris Breen points out some highlights. Mac Gems: WriteRoom If you want a minimalist tool for writing, WriteRoom is likely to have all the features you need. But unlike some other distraction-free writing tools, you can still personalize your writing environment. Search iTunes radio stations using playlists By default, you can't search for stations in the Radio section of iTunes; the search field is dimmed. But there's a workaround that'll let you find the station you want. Siri: The missing Mountain Lion feature Mountain Lion looks promising. But Lex Friedman hopes Apple will add support for Siri, the voice recognition assistant from the iPhone 4S, to the next iteration of the Mac OS as well.
